विश्व कैंसर दिवस पर ‘द लांसेट रेस्पिरेटरी मेडिसिन जर्नल’ में मंगलवार को एक रिसर्च प्रकाशित हुई है। विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन की अंतरराष्ट्रीय कैंसर अनुसंधान एजेंसी (आईएआरसी) सहित अन्य संगठनों के शोधकर्ताओं ने चार उपप्रकारों- ‘एडेनोकार्सिनोमा’ (ग्रंथि कैंसर), ‘स्क्वैमस सेल कार्सिनोमा’ (त्वचा कैंसर), छोटे और बड़े ‘सेल कार्सिनोमा’ के लिए राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर फेफड़ों के कैंसर के मामलों का अनुमान लगाने के मकसद से ‘ग्लोबल कैंसर ऑब्जर्वेटरी 2022 डेटासेट’ सहित अन्य ‘डेटा’ का विश्लेषण किया। शोधकर्ताओं ने पाया कि एडेनोकार्सिनोमा (ऐसा कैंसर जो बलगम और पाचन में मदद करने वाले तरल पदार्थ उत्पन्न करने वाली ग्रंथियों में शुरू होता है) पुरुषों और महिलाओं दोनों में प्रमुख उपप्रकार बन गया है। इसके साथ ही 2022 में दुनिया भर में कभी धूम्रपान न करने वालों में फेफड़े के कैंसर के 53-70 प्रतिशत मामले इसी उप-प्रकार के पाए गए।
शोधकर्ताओं ने लिखा, ‘‘विश्व भर के कई देशों में धूम्रपान का प्रचलन कम होता जा रहा है, लेकिन इसके बाद भी कभी धूम्रपान नहीं करने वाले लोगों में फेफड़े के कैंसर का अनुपात बढ़ रहा है।’’ आईएआरसी में कैंसर निगरानी शाखा के प्रमुख फ्रेडी ब्रे ने कहा, ‘‘धूम्रपान की आदतों में बदलाव और वायु प्रदूषण के संपर्क में आना फेफड़े के कैंसर के जोखिम में के मुख्य निर्धारकों में से हैं।” फेफड़ों का कैंसर आज कैंसर से संबंधित मौतों के प्रमुख कारणों में से एक है।
